SIP Clients

SIP clients are software applications that run on devices such as computers, smartphones, or tablets and allow users to make and receive SIP-based voice, video, and messaging communications over the internet. They use SIP protocol to establish, maintain and terminate multimedia sessions between two or more parties. SIP clients can be standalone applications, web-based or integrated into other software such as email clients or instant messaging applications. Examples of SIP clients include softphones, web-based clients, and mobile apps.

 

They all need to be configured with parameters in order to register.

  • TFTP: Phone download configuration from a tftp server during boot process containing parameters for registration
  • CS: Configuration server (option 141) provide process more on RFC 6011
  • Manual: Manually enter configuration parameters for registration
  • Group Policy: push configuration via config files using group policy
